Employer Discription:

Brian Cunningham Transport was established by Brian Cunningham in 1999 serving the transportation needs of local businesses in Castlebar, Co. Mayo, Ireland.  The business quickly expanded and was incorporated in 2003 when we took over the transport operations of Lough Conn Milling Co.

We employ 50 staff and run a fleet of 20 tractor units, 80 assorted trailers and 2 tugs. We also have a reachstacker located at our container storage facility in Castlebar and one in our Dublin Depot.

Our approach has always been based on the principle of “Continuous Improvement” which involves us continuously reviewing our processes to make them more efficient and cost effective. Some examples of improvements that were implemented are:

  • Set up container yard with container handling equipment as it reduced the need for trailers and parking. It also enables us to provide a more responsive service to our customers.

  • We installed a Fleet Management system that measures the efficiency and location of each vehicle. This enables us to have visibility of the locations of all vehicles so that we can respond to customer requirements quickly and efficiently. It also allows us to monitor the fuel efficiency of our vehicles thus reducing our carbon footprint as well as providing functionality whereby we can give customers access to track their shipments.

In 2011 it was decided to enter the Tanker Business in Ireland and the UK. Brian Cunningham Transport UK Ltd. was established at a base in Widnes to handle the UK business and now runs a fleet of 7 trucks. In 2014 the UK operation moved to Ellesmere Port and we acquired waste permits for Ireland, UK, Netherlands, Belgium and France as well as ISO9001/2008 accreditation.

In early 2016 we opened a new Depot equipped with a lifting equipment in Swords North Business Park, Dublin.  This facility has enabled us to further enhance services being offered to our clients enabling them to significantly reduce handling/Quay demurrage charges as well as offering improved flexibility.  This depot has proven to be a useful link between our existing operations in the UK and Castlebar.

Our philosophy continues to be based on that of “Continuous Improvement” so that we can continue to provide our customers with reliable, safe, innovative and cost effective Transport and Logistic solutions.
