CGL is a health and social care charity working with individuals, families and communities across England and Wales who have challenges with drugs and alcoholand may also be affected by crime, homelessness, domestic abuse, and antisocial behaviour.

CGL provides comprehensive, integrated, recovery-focused services that assist and empower individuals with complex problems to take responsibility for their own recovery journeys.

Vacancy Description: 

Key Activities:

As first point of contact for clients and visitors to the service, ensuring telephone calls and visits from service users, outside agencies and CGL staff are dealt with promptly and courteously, accurately transferring calls to appropriate personnel when necessary.  Covering reception when necessary.

  • To ensure effective processing of correspondence, processing external post and recording incoming post.
  • Data Inputting and basic data analysis.
  • Maintaining the client filing system and assisting with the archiving process.
  • Inputting client data onto a bespoke data system.
  • Assisting with the production and processing of prescriptions.
  • To minute take at team and other meetings.
  • To assist with the setting up of a general filing system within the project.
  • To assist in monitoring and ordering office stationery/requirements.
  • To assist in maintaining and balancing local petty cash systems under the direction of the administrators.
  • To carry out photocopying/scanning documents as required.
  • To assist administration, record-keeping and communication within the project are maintained.
  • To gain an understanding of operational requirements of the project base & Senior Management as required, eg room bookings, travel arrangements etc
  • General house-keeping to ensure the office looks neat and tidy, refilling office stationary and proformas regularly.

General terms of reference:

 In carrying out the above duties the post holder will:

  • Work flexibly within an agreed number of hours of work to maintain the most appropriate level of service provision.

  • Participate in appraisal, training and supervision processes.
  • Keep abreast of developments in servicesand practice relevant to the aims of the service.

  • Undertake other duties appropriate to the grade of the post.

  • Enthusiasm to gain knowledge of general office procedures.
  • literacy including proficiency in word processing and data entry.

  • The ability to respond to appropriate requests for assistance, maintaining confidentiality whenever necessary.

Qualifications Required: 

GCSE’s grades A-C in English, Maths and ICT are desirable for this role. 


Training to be provided:

The college course includes visits every 3-4 weeks for workplace assessment.  You may also be required to attend College one day per week to attend knowledge sessions.  If the post-holder requires Functional Skills qualifications then there is the need for attendance at additional 2 hour knowledge sessions for 10 weeks (for either English or Maths) at the start of the programme at a City of Liverpool College centre in the city centre. 


Expected Duration:

15 months


Working Week:

37.5 hours per week

 Monday – Friday 9am – 5pm 


Future Prospects:

On successful completion of the apprenticeship the post will be reviewed and there may be the opportunity of a full-time position and progression onto a higher level apprenticeship.

The successful applicant will be required to work from either/both locations.


Reality Check:

Training on the Apprenticeships Programme for 16 to 18 year olds is a priority and fully-funded by the Government for non-levy paying employers. Training for Apprenticeships for those over this age is part funded, with employers expected to make a part or full contribution.
