Former student in final for best business start-up award

A former City of Liverpool College student who started her own business, is in the running for a young business entrepreneur of the year award from a leading magazine.

Amy Hewitt is a finalist in the Best Business Start Up of the Year Category of the UK Fashion & Beauty 2018 Awards, with her fashion design and alterations business: Design Studio94 By Hewitt.

23-year-ols Amy, who studied Fashion & Clothing at the College before graduating with a BA HONS Degree in Fashion Design & Clothing from LJMU, opened her shop near Crosby [Merseyside] in March 2018 after working hard as a designer and seamstress with global fashion brand Miss Pap. Since starting her business, Amy has built up a strong customer base, with clients clamouring for her latest designs from as far away as the USA.

Jan Schofield: Head of Fashion, Art & Design, who taught Amy during her time at the college, said: “Amy always worked hard to achieve a successful outcome in her work whilst at College. This prepared her well for the world of work and her drive and commitment to starting her own business and start up nomination for young business entrepreneur.”

On being selected as a finalist, Amy said: “It's fantastic to be recognised for this award. It was a dream of mine to open my own business and I’m so very grateful to have had some fantastic teachers, especially those working at the College.

“The education, knowledge and business skills I’ve learnt gave me the confidence to start up on my own, and I plan to keep working hard to grow my business and hope to set up a shop abroad at some stage in the future.”

The annual Liverpool Fashion and Beauty Awards was established five years ago to recognise the wealth of creative talent that exists across the North West, particularly those working in the popular fashion and beauty industries.
