Job Description: 

We are seeking a junior apprentice to work in our salon in the Childwall area of Liverpool. We specialise in protective hair styling at our salon where we offer a range of hair styling.

We are seeking a junior apprentice wanting a career as a hairdresser working in our salon, specialising in long blow-dries. You will also study one day per week at The City of Liverpool College (Duke Street site) to gain the underpinning knowledge whilst working at our salon 4 days per week.

You must be committed to the apprenticeship programme and the job role and in return we will give you an excellent opportunity to train and learn with our team of experienced stylists.

You will be expected to carry out tasks such as:

  • Long blow drys
  • greeting customers
  • shampooing hair
  • making sure towels and supplies are ready for use
  • Keeping the salon clean and tidy.

As the apprenticeship progresses your work will include:

  • Styling hair through blow-drying
  • advising on minor hair and scalp problems
  • making appointments and handling payments
  • ordering materials
  • Making sure that hair products containing chemicals are used and stored correctly
  • Mixing tints and applying them

 

Skills Required: 

  • Excellent interpersonal skills & courteous
  • Some previous experience in styling and blow-drying hair an advantage
  • Able to work with hands
  • Excellent customer service skills

 

Qualifications Required: 

Ideally a minimum of GCSE grades C or 4 or Level 2 in English and Maths but a real passion for hairdressing is the key to this role.

  • Flexible, as the role will require a range of functions

 

Training to be Provided: 

The Hairdressing Level 2 apprenticeship involves attending College one day per week (term-time only, near Duke Street) to gain the Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Hair and Functional Skills Level 1 in English and Maths. IF GCSEs are already held then the apprentice will not need the Functional Skills.

The apprentice will also receive visits every 8 weeks for workplace assessment and review.

 

Expected Duration:

18 months

 

Working Week:

From 30 hours per week.

The salon is open on 5 days per week – Tuesdays to Saturdays

 

Future Prospects:

On successful completion of the apprenticeship the post will be reviewed and there could be the opportunity of progressing onto a Level 3 Hair apprenticeship

 

Important Information:

 Must have good transport access to the salon, so fairly local.

 As part of the selection process there would be an initial interview and a trial period. 

There would also be a probationary period as part of the programme. 

 

Other Important Information:

Training on the Apprenticeships Programme for 16 to 18 year olds is a priority and fully-funded by the Government for non-levy paying employers. Training for Apprenticeships for those over this age is part funded, with employers expected to make a part or full contribution.
