Want to work in Healthcare? Would you like to study and gain lots of work experience at the same time? We will provide you with a relevant placement where you will gain the practical experience you need to get a job or progress on to University.

This is an exciting new qualification providing you with a range of essential technical and practical skills and knowledge to work within one of the health care industries.

What does the qualification cover?

The content of the qualification will look at areas such as:

Personal and professional development in health and care

Equality and diversity in health and care

Effective communication in health and care settings

Safeguarding for all in health and care

Science in health and care

Understanding cognitive impairment

Understanding individual care needs

Person centred working with children, young people, parents and carers

Research in health and care

Life span developments – health and care needs

Understanding physical disabilities and exploring mental health wellbeing

The course will be a mixture of classroom based activity delivered by industry experts, and work experience. The work experience will give you the opportunity to put the skills you have learnt into practice.

All of our Study Programmes are designed to help you to develop your skills and widen your college experience.

What you should expect from your Study Programme:

  • A substantial qualification e.g. GCSE, A level or vocational equivalent
  • Meaningful work experience
  • Help to achieve GCSE English and maths at grades A*-C if you do not already have them
  • Practical activities that help your personal development including study skills, enrichment activities, employability training and classes in personal and social skills to get you ready for further education or employment.
  • Support to enable you to progress to the next level of study or employment

English and Maths

English and Maths skills are vital for employment and to secure a place on courses at a higher level, including university.

We have a team of tutors who will work with you to achieve these essential qualifications and enable you to apply these skills in your day to day activities and work.

Since September 2013 any young person who does not achieve their GCSE in English language and mathematics at grade C or above will have to continue their studies at college. Students who have a grade D in either subject must study these subjects at GCSE level.

Learner, Emma Shuker joined The City of Liverpool College on a Level 1 Health and Social Care course – after her school told her not to go to college because she wouldn’t succeed. Emma worked hard and utilised all the support her tutors gave her as she continued to progress to Level 2 and then Level 3. This year her tutors are proud to see Emma graduate from Edge Hill University with a BA in Health Studies, and wish her all the best in her career.
