Job description:

RSM Consulting are seeking a full-time trainee consultant to join one of the fastest growing technology and management consultancy practices in the UK. You will work as part of the projects and programmes team supporting internal and external projects.

The apprentice will be mostly based in the Liverpool office, although you will be expected to travel at times to join colleagues at other RSM sites or client sites. All travel is paid for by RSM, you do not need a driving licence or your own transport.

The work undertaken by this role is separated into external and internal work.

External - Clients

You will support your colleagues with assignments usually with public sector clients including police and local authorities. These can include reviews, evaluation, understanding demand and cost saving exercises.

Internal – RSM team

Supporting the function of the projects and programmes team. This could include organising training and team days. Supporting business development activities, preparing presentations and attending events.

Duties may include

  • Data analysis
  • Research
  • Drafting text for reports
  • Supporting colleagues to work with businesses to identify means of improving efficiency
  • Drafting proposals
  • Assisting with social impact assessments


Personal Qualities:

Qualifications Required:

5 GCSES A-C, Including English and Maths.

Evidence of further study or training post GCSE or relevant work experience.


Skills Required:

It is essential that candidates are numerate with good written and verbal communication skills. We would be beneficial if candidates have existing IT skills in word and excel and experience of data analysis and collection.

Candidates are expected to be self-disciplined, well organised and able to present themselves in a professional manner. They should have a high level of attention to detail and be able to work in a calm logical way to achieve tasks within set deadlines.


Training to be Provided:

You will work towards a higher NVQ Level 3 Business Administration

qualification supported by Liverpool College, additionally you will receive a range of training courses appropriate to your role including the Prince2 qualification.

As an RSM trainee you will be supported through the traineeship programme which all apprentices and graduate trainees undertake. This will include some training away from home overnight. However, most of the learning will take place “on the job”.


Working Week:

Monday- Friday (37.5 hours per week)

Time will be given for ‘off-the-job training’ for the Business Administration course  


Expected Duration: 

2 years


Future Prospects:

Trainees are expected to have the aptitude and desire to progress within the two-year traineeship to allow them to progress to more senior roles in the future. This progression will be determined by the trainee’s development of skills and contribution to the team and company.


Reality Check:

This role will require the candidate to sometimes work away from home. Within the induction period the successful candidate will attend residential courses. All expenses will be paid.


Important Information:

Due to the nature of clients the successful candidate will work with, the candidate will need to be security vetted. This requires the candidate to have been a UK resident for at least five years, it will include UK criminal and security checks and credit checks. 


Other Important Information:

Training on the Apprenticeships Programme for 16 to 18 year olds is a priority and fully-funded by the Government for non-levy paying employers. Training for Apprenticeships for those over this age is part funded, with employers expected to make a part or full contribution.
