Vacancy Description

Working at our popular coffee barn in Halewood in a pretty rural setting, we are seeking a keen and eager apprentice to help prepare our range of breakfast, lunch and dishes. In combination with The City of Liverpool College we will help you develop your knowledge of food preparation and cooking through an apprenticeship programme in Food Preparation/cooking.

Working with the owner you will gain a solid grounding in chef/food preparation skills

 

Main Duties and Responsibilities

We have a vacancy for an apprentice in food preparation at our popular coffee barn in Halewood. The role and and the training programme, at The City of Liverpool College will focus on food preparation of breakfast, lunches, soups and afternoon tea menu items.

The main duties for the role will be to:

  • Maintain a safe, hygienic and secure working environment

  • Give customers a positive impression of self and our business

  • Work effectively as part of a hospitality team

  • Prepare vegetables for dishes

  • Make hot and cold sandwiches

  • Prepare meat dishes

  • Prepare soups

  • Prepare sauces

  • Knowledge of ingredients in our dishes

  • Preparation and clearing of service areas

  • To be involved in team discussions and to bring ideas for improving business/services

  • To maintain a flexible approach to work and prioritise

 

Skills Required

  • Able to demonstrate previous skills in food preparation, through the workplace or voluntary.

Qualifications required

Ideally a Level 1 catering/hospitality qualification and a minimum of Entry Level 3 in Maths and English but a real passion and interest in cooking/food preparation is the key to this role.

 

Working Week:

From 30 hours per week – inclusive of time in College.

You will also be expected to attend college 1 day per week during term time

 

Training to be provided

NVQ Level 2 in – Hospitality Services: Food Preparation one day per week at Duke Street site in Liverpool city centre plus Functional Skills Level 1  in English and Maths if required

 

Expected Duration

12-15 months

 

Future Prospects:

The prospect of a full-time role is here on successful completion of your apprenticeship programme

 

Reality Check:

Able to access employer premises in Halewood, this is a rural location and you need to ensure you are able to travel to and from work.

 

Other Important Information

Training on the Apprenticeships Programme for 16 to 18 year olds is a priority and fully-funded by the Government for non-levy paying employers. Training for Apprenticeships for those over this age is part funded, with employers expected to make a part or full contribution.
