City of Liverpool College and Sovini apprentice wins Apprentice of the Year

The College celebrates success with apprentice Summer crowned Livercool Apprentice of the Year

The City of Liverpool College proudly celebrates the success of apprentice Summer Fitzmaurice from The Sovini Group, who was crowned Apprentice of the Year at the Downtown in Business Livercool Awards 2024.

Summer, who has also been recognized by the Worshipful Company of Plumbers, received her award during a glittering ceremony at Liverpool’s Crowne Plaza Hotel on Thursday, 21 November.

The College also celebrated the success of Shayne Williams from Revive, who was highly commended and shortlisted for the same award. Shayne is a national finalist in the prestigious World Skills Competition, following his impressive performance in the regional stages.

The Livercool Awards, organized by Downtown in Business, honour exceptional entrepreneurs, business leaders, and individuals driving the growth of the Liverpool City Region. Summer’s achievement underscores her dedication, skill development, and remarkable contribution as an apprentice.

Reflecting on her win, Summer said: “It is truly an event I won’t forget. Winning this award would not have been possible without the amazing support of my managers and colleagues at Sovini and my tutors at the college. Their encouragement has been invaluable in helping me achieve this milestone.”

Colin Salmon, Director of Apprenticeships at the City of Liverpool College, praised the apprentices’ exceptional performance: “This award looks for three key attributes in an apprentice: the development of world-class skills, a proactive and ambitious relationship with a supportive employer, and the cultivation of professional behaviour. Summer has demonstrated these qualities to an extraordinary degree, showing maturity, ambition, and a collaborative spirit towards her peers. Her achievement is a testament to her hard work and dedication.”

Christina Forshaw, Learning and Development Manager at The Sovini Group said: “We are so proud of Summer for winning this award. She is dedicated, skilled, and always eager to learn. She is true asset to The Sovini Group and everyone always comments on her exceptional work ethic, technical skills, and a positive can do attitude. Her commitment to excellence and attention to detail are truly inspiring. She is a shining example of what a plumbing apprentice should be, and we are excited to see her progress in her career. Huge well-done Summer!

“We have worked with City of Liverpool college for a long time, and we recognise their exceptional contribution to the development of our apprentices. Their commitment to providing high-quality, industry-relevant training has significantly enhanced the skills and knowledge of our workforce.
