What to expect from the course

This qualification provides learners with an in-depth understanding of the knowledge and skills needed when working directly with children and young people in school and college environments.

It covers all aspects of specialist support including planning, delivering and reviewing assessment strategies to support learning alongside the teacher; bilingual support; special needs support; and personal development and reflective practice.

This qualification is aimed at learners working in roles that offer specialist support for pupils learning in primary, secondary or special schools, as well as colleges.

The course is delivered via a hybrid model of both in-person sessions and distance learning via an online platform. The duration for the course is 12 weeks.

The qualification is a 35 Credit NCFE Level 3 Certificate, the topics include Education organisations, health and safety in education, safeguarding learners, developing positive relationships with learners of all ages, supporting positive behaviour and developing a positive learning environment.

Other topics also include supporting English, maths and IcT as well as engaging in own personal and professional development.

Qualifications

On successful completion you will be awarded an NCFE Level 3 Certificate in Supporting Teaching and Learning. It is an nationally recognised award and will support further development for those wishing to progress further in education whatever their role.

Academy Restaurant

Duke Street campus is also home to the College’s Academy Restaurant. Often referred to by it’s customers as Liverpool’s hidden gem, the restaurant serves top class cuisine, at highly competitive prices. Food is expertly prepared by professional chef/tutors and young chefs in training and offers students a range of discounts at different times of the year.

When you become a student of the College you’ll receive full access to Microsoft Office 365. This allows you to install the software on your own computer and other devices at home, completely free of charge.

Onsite Sports Facilities/Fitness Suite

The college has excellent sports and fitness facilities at its Roscoe Street campus. Students pay a one-off membership fee for all year round usage of weekly supervised gym sessions, as well as access to a number of sporting clubs and events.


Career pathways

This qualification is aimed at learners working in roles that offer specialist support for pupils’ learning in primary, secondary or special schools, as well as colleges.

Learners achieving the Level 3 Diploma can progress onto the Level 4 Certificate for the Advanced Practitioner in Schools and Colleges, a foundation degree, or specialist roles within the workforce.

This qualification provides you with the knowledge, understanding and skills to work in a variety of unsupervised job roles that support children and young people’s learning in schools or colleges. Roles this qualification will prepare you for include:

• Teaching Assistant
• Learning Support Assistant
• Special Needs Assistant.

Entry Requirements

To apply for this course learners should have a Level 2 in English, some knowledge and understanding of education eg mainstream, further education and post compulsory. A willingness to work independently .

Learners should also have good IT Skills and access to a PC or laptop.

Learners are supported by experienced and passionate tutors, as a learner at the City of Liverpool College you will also have access to other support including Students Union membership and support from Careers Advice & Guidance.

If you are 16-18 years old at the start of your course, studying at The City of Liverpool College is free. If you are aged 19 or over you may be entitled to a fee waiver for your course or you may qualify for an Advanced Learner Loan to cover the cost of your course.
