Electrical and Electronic Engineering — Higher National Certificate (HNC)

The Higher National Certificate in Electrical and Electronic Engineering is designed to equip students with the key knowledge, understanding and practical skills required to work and progress in the electrical and electronic engineering sector. The course develops students as professional, self-reflecting individuals who are able to meet the demands of employers in the rapidly evolving engineering sector and adapt to a constantly changing world. The qualification also aims to widen access to higher education and enhance students' career prospects.

This course embeds the development of key skills throughout the programme. Students will develop attributes and strengths required by twenty-first century employers. On completion of this course, students may wish to progress to further study at Level 5 on the Higher National Diploma in Engineering.

How will I be taught?

The teaching and learning strategies used to promote these skills are developed through the programme outlined above. Analysis and problem-solving skills are developed through coursework and laboratory/workshop activities. Practical, research and design skills are developed through coursework, assignments and laboratory/workshop activities.

How will I be assessed?

The assessment of this course is through practical activities, activity write-ups, coursework/research reports and project reports and presentations.

Who is the course intended for?

The HNC Electrical and Electronic Engineering course at The City of Liverpool College University Centre is aimed at students wanting to continue their education through applied learning. It provides a wide-ranging study of the electronic engineering sector and is designed for students who wish to pursue a career in this sector. In addition to the skills, knowledge and techniques that underpin the study of the sector, the HNC course gives students experience of the breadth and depth of the sector that will prepare them for employment, progression within employment or further study.

Students may be required to purchase their own materials for any specialist projects they undertake as part of the course.

Qualifications

The City of Liverpool College has up-to-date equipment and software to complement or prepare students for work in engineering industries. Released students are encouraged to complete a work-based project. Where appropriate, the teaching is practically based.
