What to expect from the course

Choosing to study BTEC Level 3 National Applied Science is a great decision to make for lots of reasons.
More and more employers are looking well qualified people to work within the fields of science, technology, engineering and maths.

The applied sciences offer a wide variety of careers, such as:

• Forensic scientist
• Drug researcher
• Medical physics technician
• Science technician and many more.

Your BTEC will sharpen your skills for employment or further study.

The Edexcel BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Applied Science is a 2 year course and is an alternative qualification to A Level. It attracts a maximum of 360 UCAS points, as with any other 3 A Level programme. Assessment is through a variety of methods, including case studies, assignments along with projects, performance observation and time-constrained assessments.

The course has been developed in the science sector to focus on giving students the opportunity to acquire technical and employability skills, knowledge and understanding which are transferable and will enable individuals to meet changing circumstances, whether these arise from a shift in their own status or employment, or general changes in applied science practice, provision or environment.

Your BTEC Level 3 National Applied Science is a vocational (or work related) qualification. This means that you'll have the opportunity to gain specific knowledge, understanding and skills that are relevant to your chosen area of work.

Academy Restaurant

Duke Street campus is also home to the College’s Academy Restaurant. Often referred to by it’s customers as Liverpool’s hidden gem, the restaurant serves top class cuisine, at highly competitive prices. Food is expertly prepared by professional chef/tutors and young chefs in training and offers students a range of discounts at different times of the year.

Microsoft Office 365 - Free

When you become a student of the College you’ll receive full access to Microsoft Office 365. This allows you to install the software on your own computer and other devices at home, completely free of charge.

Onsite Sports Facilities/Fitness Suite

The college has excellent sports and fitness facilities at its Roscoe Street campus. Students pay a one-off membership fee for all year round usage of weekly supervised gym sessions, as well as access to a number of sporting clubs and events.

Our BTEC Level 3 in Applied Science programme can lead onto Higher Education* courses and employment.

* Please note that for some university courses you may need GCSE English and or/Maths and Science at 4/C or above. You must check this with the universities you may wish to apply to.

Entry Requirements

The minimum entry requirements for the course are 5 GCSEs at grades 4-9/A*-C or equivalent, including maths and science.

For mature students, entry requirements may be flexible.

Fees

If you are 16-18 years old at the start of your course, studying at The City of Liverpool College is free. If you are aged 19 or over you may be entitled to a fee waiver for your course or you may qualify for an Advanced Learner Loan to cover the cost of your course. In future years this fee may be subject to change.

Please note this is a two year programme that consists of two courses. Your fee status may change from one year to the next depending on age and circumstance at the start of the next course e.g. if you turn 19 before progressing to the next level, you may be required to pay fees as outlined above.
