What to expect from the course

The Level 2 Diploma in Beauty Specialist Techniques is a qualification that has been specifically designed for 16+ learners, wanting to start a career in the Beauty Industry. The purpose of this qualification is to develop your skills in beauty therapy to a high level, to enable you to perform your own salon services.

The course is designed to develop practical skills in:
Eyelash and brow tinting/shaping treatments
Removing hair using waxing techniques
Applying make-up
Manicure
Pedicure
Facials
Lash Lift
Tanning Techniques
Health & Safety
Client Care & Communication

Underpinning this qualification you will develop a sound knowledge of health and safety practice in a salon environment, how to contribute to the effective running of a beauty business, how to carry out effective salon reception duties and
how to display retail stock to promote sales in the salon. You will also develop your knowledge and understanding of the practical skills learned throughout this qualification.

Duke Street is also home to The Academy Hair and Beauty salons. They offer generous student discounts on a wide range of hair and beauty treatments, at a fraction of high-street prices. These include styling, cutting, perming, highlights, facials, manicures, electrolysis and traditional and homeopathic massage.

Academy Restaurant

Duke Street campus is also home to the College’s Academy Restaurant. Often referred to by it’s customers as Liverpool’s hidden gem, the restaurant serves top class cuisine, at highly competitive prices. Food is expertly prepared by professional chef/tutors and young chefs in training and offers students a range of discounts at different times of the year.

Microsoft Office 365 - Free

When you become a student of the College you’ll receive full access to Microsoft Office 365. This allows you to install the software on your own computer and other devices at home, completely free of charge.

Onsite Sports Facilities/Fitness Suite

The college has excellent sports and fitness facilities at its Roscoe Street campus. Students pay a one-off membership fee for all year round usage of weekly supervised gym sessions, as well as access to a number of sporting clubs and events.


Career pathways

When you have successfully completed this qualification, you will have the opportunity to progress to the following VTCT qualifications:

VTCT Level 3 Diploma in Beauty Therapy
VTCT [ITEC] Level 3 Certificate in Access to Aesthetics Therapies

This qualification may lead directly into employment in the beauty therapy industry as a junior beauty therapist in a salon or self employment as a beauty therapist.

Entry Requirements

A minimum of 5 GCSEs grade 4 (previously C) or above including Maths and English Language OR a minimum of 5 GCSEs grade 4 or above including Maths and English Language and relevant subject qualification OR a minimum of Level 2 course in your chosen subject at merit or above and English Language and Maths at Level 2.

Fees

If you are 16-18 years old at the start of your course, studying at The City of Liverpool College is free. If you are aged between 19-23 and don’t already hold a qualification equivalent to 5 GCSEs at grade 4 (C) or above, and you need to study at Entry or Level 1 to progress to Level 2, you won't have to pay any fees for this course.
