  • This higher level qualification is studied over 1 year in two evening sessions, allowing you to work during the day.

What to expect from the course

Higher Nationals provide a wide-ranging study of the early education and care sector and are designed for students who wish to pursue or advance their career in early education and care practice or related fields.
The Level 4 Higher National Certificate (HNC) in Early Childhood Education and Care offers students an in-depth introduction to the subject area via a mandatory core of learning.
Students will develop a broad knowledge and awareness of key aspects of the early education and care sector through eight Core units, which includes one unit assessed by a Pearson-set assignment. The Pearson BTEC Level 4 Higher National Certificate in Early Childhood Education and Care includes a minimum requirement of 375 hours’ work placement or experience in early education and/or care settings. The mandatory elements of work placement/experience are as follows. A minimum of two different settings is required, a minimum of 75 practice hours with each of the following age ranges:

? From birth to one year,
? From two years to four years
? Five years to seven years.



The Higher National Certificate Early Childhood Education and Care is subject to validation by Pearson.

Academy Restaurant

Duke Street campus is also home to the College’s Academy Restaurant. Often referred to by it’s customers as Liverpool’s hidden gem, the restaurant serves top class cuisine, at highly competitive prices. Food is expertly prepared by professional chef/tutors and young chefs in training and offers students a range of discounts at different times of the year.

Microsoft Office 365 - Free

When you become a student of the College you’ll receive full access to Microsoft Office 365. This allows you to install the software on your own computer and other devices at home, completely free of charge.

Onsite Sports Facilities/Fitness Suite

The college has excellent sports and fitness facilities at its Roscoe Street campus. Students pay a one-off membership fee for all year round usage of weekly supervised gym sessions, as well as access to a number of sporting clubs and events.

Entry Requirements

Minimum entry requirements are:
96 UCAS points in a relevant level 3 subject.
For example, MMM in a related subject, such as BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma or equivalent.
In addition to the Level 3 qualification, GCSE English Language and GCSE Maths at grade C/4 or above or equivalent.

We also welcome applications from those with relevant experience in lieu of the minimum entry requirements. If you are a mature student and you can demonstrate experience and skills needed for our HE courses – from current work and/or through other skills or experience – this can supplement your application.

Fees

This course is only available to learners aged 18 and over. Fees are payable by all students unless sponsored by an employer, but you may qualify for a student loan through Student Finance England towards the cost of your course and living costs. In future years this fee may be subject to change.

Please note this is a two year programme that consists of two courses. Your fee status may change from one year to the next depending on age and circumstance at the start of the next course e.g. if you turn 19 before progressing to the next level, you may be required to pay fees as outlined above.
