What to expect from the course

ESOL offers part-time courses at different level for speakers of other languages, who wish to gain national qualifications in the English Language.

Courses develop reading, writing, listening and speaking skills and include grammar, access and study skills.

ESOL courses are based on the ESOL Skills for life National Curriculum from Beginner Level to Level 2.

As there are classes in the mornings, afternoons and evenings, you can choose the best time for your studies.

You can join the courses throughout the year, if there is a place available.

This information is for people who will be 19 or older on the 31st August this year.

Qualifications

ESOL programmes are accredited at the following levels:
* Pre Entry - Beginers
* Entry Level (E1, E2, E3)
* Level 1 (equivalent to NVQ 1)
* Level 2 (equivalent to NVQ 2 / GCSE)
Exams can be taken in Reading, Writing, Listening/Speaking.
We also have some maths and IT classes for ESOL students.

Academy Restaurant

Duke Street campus is also home to the College’s Academy Restaurant. Often referred to by it’s customers as Liverpool’s hidden gem, the restaurant serves top class cuisine, at highly competitive prices. Food is expertly prepared by professional chef/tutors and young chefs in training and offers students a range of discounts at different times of the year.

Microsoft Office 365 - Free

When you become a student of the College you’ll receive full access to Microsoft Office 365. This allows you to install the software on your own computer and other devices at home, completely free of charge.

Onsite Sports Facilities/Fitness Suite

The college has excellent sports and fitness facilities at its Roscoe Street campus. Students pay a one-off membership fee for all year round usage of weekly supervised gym sessions, as well as access to a number of sporting clubs and events.


Career pathways

Many ESOL students at Entry Level go on to study higher level ESOL courses.

Learners can progress onto other academic or vocational courses in college - please check entry requirements.

Entry Requirements

All students have an initial assessment of their English language skills so that they can be offered the most appropriate classes for their level.

Fees

If you are 16-18 years old at the start of your course, studying at The City of Liverpool College is free. Aged 19 or over and unemployed or earning less than £33,958.60 a year?
