What to expect from the course

If you have an interest in fashion and textiles, this fantastic programme can help you gain an accredited qualification and progress to a career in the fashion sector.

The course provides knowledge, understanding and skills through a range of activities including observational drawing and fashion illustration, researching fashion designers and trends, developing design ideas for garments, production of patterns for garments, garment construction and experimental textile techniques.

The course is delivered through a series of workshops - you'll undertake a series of internally assessed assignment briefs.
You will have the opportunity to visit galleries and exhibitions as part of the course and take part in the College end of year fashion show.

Many students progress to a higher level of study or become self-employed developing skills for family and business clients.

The City of Liverpool College is the only college offering the opportunity to study UAL Level 2 Art and Design with a Fashion Pathway in the centre of Liverpool. Join this exciting course and work with industry experienced tutors to design and create your own garments. Studios are equipped with a range of specialist equipment and grades for this well-established course are above the national average. Students participate in educational visits and live project briefs throughout the academic year. They develop a professional portfolio preparing them for progression to a higher level of study. All students exhibit their work at an end of year fashion show within the city centre attended by family, friends the awarding body and employers.

Academy Bakery

The Academy Bakery is located on the Duke Street campus, producing a range of first class baked goods daily. These include artisan breads, patisserie and biscuits, as well as special occasion/novelty cakes by award-winning master-bakers. Students are offered a range of discounts throughout the year.

Academy Hair and Beauty Salons

Duke Street is also home to The Academy Hair and Beauty salons. They offer generous student discounts on a wide range of hair and beauty treatments, at a fraction of high-street prices. These include styling, cutting, perming, highlights, facials, manicures, electrolysis and traditional and homeopathic massage.

Academy Restaurant

Duke Street campus is also home to the College’s Academy Restaurant. Often referred to by it’s customers as Liverpool’s hidden gem, the restaurant serves top class cuisine, at highly competitive prices. Food is expertly prepared by professional chef/tutors and young chefs in training and offers students a range of discounts at different times of the year.

When you become a student of the College you’ll receive full access to Microsoft Office 365. This allows you to install the software on your own computer and other devices at home, completely free of charge.

Onsite Sports Facilities/Fitness Suite

The college has excellent sports and fitness facilities at its Roscoe Street campus. Students pay a one-off membership fee for all year round usage of weekly supervised gym sessions, as well as access to a number of sporting clubs and events.

Entry Requirements

Designed for all learners with a grade profile of 3 GCSEs at grade 3 and 4 and/or level 1 qualification at grade Merit or above. English and Maths GCSEs are not required, however an ability to work toward these within the academic year.

Fees

If you are 16-18 years old at the start of your course, studying at The City of Liverpool College is free.
