Course Details

  • The BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Health and Social Care is a qualification taught over two years, the first year comprises of A BTEC Foundation Diploma (Equivalent to 1.5 A Levels) and if you choose to continue on the second year you will achieve a BTEC Extended Diploma (equivalent to 3 A Levels). BTEC Nations combine academic understanding with practical and technical skills.

What to expect from the course

The course comprises of 6 units per year, 2 are assessed using external exams and the other 4 are coursework which are internally assessed by your teaching staff.
You will study a wide range of units relevant to a career in health or social care including Human Lifespan Development, Safeguarding, Human Physiology, Healthcare Practices, and Social Sciences. In addition to the academic part of your qualification you will also complete an assessed work placement in the second year where you will work in a health or social care setting.

As well as the academic skills you will learn within this qualification you will develop skills in research, academic writing teamwork and presentation skills. We also offer several trips and activities within the department and the students union.
To further broaden your CV you will be expected to complete relevant work experience during your time at college.

Qualifications

The course enables you to progress directly into a career in health care, an apprenticeship or university to study course such as nursing, social work, midwifery, paramedic science, or a degree in a related subject such as sociology or psychology.

Academy Restaurant

Duke Street campus is also home to the College’s Academy Restaurant. Often referred to by it’s customers as Liverpool’s hidden gem, the restaurant serves top class cuisine, at highly competitive prices. Food is expertly prepared by professional chef/tutors and young chefs in training and offers students a range of discounts at different times of the year.

Microsoft Office 365 - Free

When you become a student of the College you’ll receive full access to Microsoft Office 365. This allows you to install the software on your own computer and other devices at home, completely free of charge.

Onsite Sports Facilities/Fitness Suite

The college has excellent sports and fitness facilities at its Roscoe Street campus. Students pay a one-off membership fee for all year round usage of weekly supervised gym sessions, as well as access to a number of sporting clubs and events.

Fees

If you are 16-18 years old at the start of your course, studying at The City of Liverpool College is free. If you are aged between 19-23 and don’t have a Full Level 3 qualification, you won't have to pay any fees for this course.

24 years old or over or 19-23 and hold a Full Level 3 qualification at the start of the course? Fees are payable, but you may qualify for an Advanced Learner Loan to cover the cost of your course. Please note this is a two year programme that consists of two courses. Your fee status may change from one year to the next depending on age and circumstance at the start of the next course e.g. if you turn 19 before progressing to the next level, you may be required to pay fees as outlined above.
