What to expect from the course

This is a one year resit course covering the two year GCSE maths syllabus, mainly aimed at foundation tier but with some opportunity for higher.

It offers you a comprehensive introduction to Maths as well as providing the opportunity to gain a nationally recognised qualification.

Delivery takes an innovative mastery approach to build students' confidence, fluency, problem-solving and reasoning in readiness for GCSE and beyond. The qualification consists of three equally weighted written examination papers which are assessed at the end of the year.

The assessments cover all key aspects of mathematics at level 2: Number, Algebra, Ratio and proportion, Geometry and measures, Probability and Statistics.

If you are 16-18 and have not yet achieved a grade 4 then this course is compulsory. There are various possible combinations in which you can study for this qualification. If you come to college to take a GCSE resit program, then this will be one you will choose to make up a full time program of study. If you come to college for a vocational course this GCSE will be run alongside. For 19+ learners there is an option to study this as an evening class or as part of a Pre- Access or Access program (subject to suitability assessment).

The Academy Bakery is located on the Duke Street campus, producing a range of first class baked goods daily. These include artisan breads, patisserie and biscuits, as well as special occasion/novelty cakes by award-winning master-bakers. Students are offered a range of discounts throughout the year.

Academy Hair and Beauty Salons

Duke Street is also home to The Academy Hair and Beauty salons. They offer generous student discounts on a wide range of hair and beauty treatments, at a fraction of high-street prices. These include styling, cutting, perming, highlights, facials, manicures, electrolysis and traditional and homeopathic massage.

Academy Restaurant

Duke Street campus is also home to the College’s Academy Restaurant. Often referred to by it’s customers as Liverpool’s hidden gem, the restaurant serves top class cuisine, at highly competitive prices. Food is expertly prepared by professional chef/tutors and young chefs in training and offers students a range of discounts at different times of the year.

Microsoft Office 365 - Free

When you become a student of the College you’ll receive full access to Microsoft Office 365. This allows you to install the software on your own computer and other devices at home, completely free of charge.

Onsite Sports Facilities/Fitness Suite

The college has excellent sports and fitness facilities at its Roscoe Street campus. Students pay a one-off membership fee for all year round usage of weekly supervised gym sessions, as well as access to a number of sporting clubs and events.

Entry Requirements

All students aged 16-18 without English and Maths at grade 4 will be required to work towards these qualifications while on their course. 19+ learners will need to sit a suitability assessment to find the right course and level.

Fees

If you are 16-18 years old at the start of your course, studying at The City of Liverpool College is free. GCSE Maths, GCSE English and Functional Skills course fees may be free if you haven't already obtained a grade C / 4 or above in these subjects.
