What to expect from the course

The Motor Industry is constantly updating technology, at the City of Liverpool College we aim to emulate our teaching with industry standards through the City & Guilds qualification. City & Guilds is the most widely recognised qualification in the motor industry which demands standards that employers recognise.

If you have the drive, confidence and ability to perform in this challenging and dynamic sector, the rewards can be very attractive.

You will be trained by qualified staff who are from the motor industry and have various manufacturer backgrounds and many years of experience gained at the highest standards.

You will also be encouraged to develop your key skills in application of number, communication and IT.

What will I Learn?

Through our programme we can take you from basic motor vehicle service skills right through to complex vehicle diagnostics on all systems. You will also gain personal skills that extends your knowledge in problem solving and team building.
You will be responsible for meeting deadlines, generating reports and customer handling. This experience will help you gain employment directly or employment via the apprenticeship scheme.

Diagnosis and rectification of vehicle engines and management systems,
Diagnosis and rectification of vehicle electrical auxiliary systems,
Diagnosis and rectification of vehicle chassis systems,
Diagnosis and rectification of vehicle transmission systems.
You will cover both knowledge and skills unit for the above, which means what you learn in the classroom will be covered in the workshop diagnosing system

Qualifications

City & Guilds Level 3 Diploma in Light Vehicle Maintenance and Repair Principles.

Duke Street campus is also home to the College’s Academy Restaurant. Often referred to by it’s customers as Liverpool’s hidden gem, the restaurant serves top class cuisine, at highly competitive prices. Food is expertly prepared by professional chef/tutors and young chefs in training and offers students a range of discounts at different times of the year.

Microsoft Office 365 - Free

When you become a student of the College you’ll receive full access to Microsoft Office 365. This allows you to install the software on your own computer and other devices at home, completely free of charge.

Onsite Sports Facilities/Fitness Suite

The college has excellent sports and fitness facilities at its Roscoe Street campus. Students pay a one-off membership fee for all year round usage of weekly supervised gym sessions, as well as access to a number of sporting clubs and events.


Career pathways

This qualification is recognised by the motor vehicle industry across the world.

With a level 3 motor vehicle qualification you can also progress onto vehicle design courses at university.

You can go directly into employment or apply for an apprenticeship programme.

Entry Requirements

at Least 3 GCSE's at C/4 and above including Maths and English or equivalent.


Completed a level 2 course in motor vehicle or have significant experience in motor vehicle repair.

Fees

If you are 16-18 years old at the start of your course, studying at The City of Liverpool College is free. If you are aged 19 or over you may be entitled to a fee waiver for your course or you may qualify for an Advanced Learner Loan to cover the cost of your course. In future years this fee may be subject to change.

Please note this is a two year programme that consists of two courses. Your fee status may change from one year to the next depending on age and circumstance at the start of the next course e.g. if you turn 19 before progressing to the next level, you may be required to pay fees as outlined above.
