What to expect from the course

This is a full time Level 2 course which will provide you with the essential skills for your development as a performer and is aimed to progress you to onto Level 3 in either acting, dance , musical theatre or production arts.

The Level 2 programme focuses primarily on acting and performing techniques but also gives you the opportunity to engage in movement and in technical theatre to provide you with broader experiences and to ensure that your progression pathway is the right one for you.

What will I learn?

Units you will study are:
• Acting techniques – looking at different styles of acting
• Devising – learning about how to use your creativity to develop your own characters and plays
• Performing Scripted Plays – looking at a range of scripts and performing using script
• Performance studies – developing your own group performance
• Individual Showcase - external assessed unit where you perform two monologues
• Movement skills – developing skills in physical theatre
• Working in the Performing Arts Industry – learning about the business aspects of performing arts and you will complete a formal onscreen test.
• Performing Arts Production Process – learning about technical theatre elements

You will receive a specialised study programme which will help you to achieve your ambitions beyond successfully completing your college course.

We have developed Study Programmes for all of our 16-18 year-old students to help further develop your skills and widen your college experience.

• GCSE A*-C or basic skills level 1 or 2 English and maths if you do not already have them

By asking you these questions, we can help you answer and present them in the research, work and academic writing that you are assessed on. This approach also allows you to build on your potential to succeed both in the industry and in education.

We have a variety of spaces in The Arts Centre; a theatre, rehearsal studios, music studios, HD television studio and new this year, a Video Motion Capture suite, all of which you have the opportunity to utilise. Regarding COVID19, we will be providing some engaging sessions online as well as face-to-face, ensuring that you can also build digital, online and camera skills on top of the training we provide.

The Academy Bakery is located on the Duke Street campus, producing a range of first class baked goods daily. Academy Restaurant

Duke Street campus is also home to the College’s Academy Restaurant. Often referred to by it’s customers as Liverpool’s hidden gem, the restaurant serves top class cuisine, at highly competitive prices. Food is expertly prepared by professional chef/tutors and young chefs in training and offers students a range of discounts at different times of the year.

Microsoft Office 365 - Free

When you become a student of the College you’ll receive full access to Microsoft Office 365. This allows you to install the software on your own computer and other devices at home, completely free of charge.

Onsite Sports Facilities/Fitness Suite

The college has excellent sports and fitness facilities at its Roscoe Street campus. Students pay a one-off membership fee for all year round usage of weekly supervised gym sessions, as well as access to a number of sporting clubs and events.


Career pathways

The course can lead to level 3 study in performing or production arts i.e. acting, dance, musical theatre or theatre technology.

Entry Requirements

For 16-18s the entry requirements are 2 x D’s at GCSE plus a successful audition. For students 19+ relevant experience is acceptable as an entry requirement. You will be expected to attend a group workshop and audition (please dress appropriately).

Fees

If you are 16-18 years old at the start of your course, studying at The City of Liverpool College is free.
