What to expect from the course

The Pre Access Health Studies programme is for students wishing to progress onto a Level Thee Access Diploma.You'll study the following subjects:

• Sociology
• Psychology
• Personal and academic development

In addition this this, you will study Functional Skills or GCSE Maths and English, depending on the qualifications you already have/require to progress onto university. An assessment on entry will determine which group you are enrolled onto, which is followed by a discussion with your course tutor when you start the course to ensure your programme of study is suited to your progression targets.

Qualifications

Level 2 Certificate in Health and Social Care, GCSE Maths and English or Functional skills Level 2 Maths and English.

Academy Hair and Beauty Salons

Duke Street is also home to The Academy Hair and Beauty salons. They offer generous student discounts on a wide range of hair and beauty treatments, at a fraction of high-street prices. These include styling, cutting, perming, highlights, facials, manicures, electrolysis and traditional and homeopathic massage.

Academy Restaurant

Duke Street campus is also home to the College’s Academy Restaurant. Often referred to by it’s customers as Liverpool’s hidden gem, the restaurant serves top class cuisine, at highly competitive prices. Food is expertly prepared by professional chef/tutors and young chefs in training and offers students a range of discounts at different times of the year.

Microsoft Office 365 - Free

When you become a student of the College you’ll receive full access to Microsoft Office 365. This allows you to install the software on your own computer and other devices at home, completely free of charge.

Onsite Sports Facilities/Fitness Suite

The college has excellent sports and fitness facilities at its Roscoe Street campus. Students pay a one-off membership fee for all year round usage of weekly supervised gym sessions, as well as access to a number of sporting clubs and events.

This course can lead to Level Three Access to Higher Education Diplomas, such as allied health professions, social science, education professions, humanities and business.

Entry Requirements


You must be aged 19 or over to study this qualification.

To secure a place on the Pre-Access programme, you must currently be working towards Level 2 in both English and Maths. Therefore, in order to receive an offer of a place on the course, you will be required to pass the College’s initial assessment, which will identify you as working towards Level 2/GCSE.This assessment will determine whether you are placed initially on Functional Skills or GCSE, which will be reassessed during the first half term.

If you are not currently working towards Level 2/GCSE, you will be required to complete a programme of study aimed at improving your skills in English and Maths. You will have an opportunity to do this by studying on a flexible English and Maths course before you apply next year for this course.

Fees

If you are 16-18 years old at the start of your course, studying at The City of Liverpool College is free.
