The Access to Higher Education team at the City of Liverpool College are a specialist team of teachers with extensive experience in working with adult learners, who have taken either a short or long break from formal education. We provide a supportive and respectful learning environment, which will allow you to fulfil your academic potential and career ambitions. We realise that returning to education can be a daunting prospect, and will help you to learn new academic skills and knowledge to allow to progress smoothly through to your chosen degree course.
The Academy Bakery is located on the Duke Street campus, producing a range of first class baked goods daily. These include artisan breads, patisserie and biscuits, as well as special occasion/novelty cakes by award-winning master-bakers. Students are offered a range of discounts throughout the year.
The Academy BakeryDuke Street is also home to The Academy Hair and Beauty salons. They offer generous student discounts on a wide range of hair and beauty treatments, at a fraction of high-street prices. These include styling, cutting, perming, highlights, facials, manicures, electrolysis and traditional and homeopathic massage.
The Academy SalonsDuke Street campus is also home to the College’s Academy Restaurant. Often referred to by it’s customers as Liverpool’s hidden gem, the restaurant serves top class cuisine, at highly competitive prices. Food is expertly prepared by professional chef/tutors and young chefs in training and offers students a range of discounts at different times of the year.
The Academy RestaurantWhen you become a student of the College you’ll receive full access to Microsoft Office 365. This allows you to install the software on your own computer and other devices at home, completely free of charge.
The college has excellent sports and fitness facilities at its Roscoe Street campus. Students pay a one-off membership fee for all year round usage of weekly supervised gym sessions, as well as access to a number of sporting clubs and events.

You must be aged 19 or over to study this qualification.
To secure a place on the Pre-Access programme, you must currently be working towards Level 2 in both English and Maths. Therefore, in order to receive an offer of a place on the course, you will be required to pass the College’s initial assessment, which will identify you as working towards Level 2/GCSE.This assessment will determine whether you are placed initially on Functional Skills or GCSE, which will be reassessed during the first half term.
If you are not currently working towards Level 2/GCSE, you will be required to complete a programme of study aimed at improving your skills in English and Maths. You will have an opportunity to do this by studying on a flexible English and Maths course before you apply next year for this course.
