What to expect from the course

'Bake' yourself happy at the very first established Bakery and Cake Decorating College in The North West and North Wales!

Imagine making your own buttery flaky croissants and Danish pastries, waiting in anticipation for hot crusty bread to come fresh out of the oven then designing a three tier wedding cake with a floral sugar craft display.

This course is for anyone who may want a career in the Baking/ Cake decoration Industry, setting up your own business or to improve you home baking and cake decorating skills whilst gaining an industry and worldwide recognised Qualification from award winning Cake Decoration and Bakery Lecturers with over 175 years combined experience from one of the north wests oldest and leading Bakery Colleges.

As a student of the course, you will work as part of the team producing commercial bakery fermented traditional breads such as cottage loaves, multiseed breads and rolls, milk bread, oven bottom cobs. European breads such as fougasse, brioche, French baguettes, focaccia, Berliner doughnuts, cakes, pastries (sweet and savoury) and celebration cakes including wired flowers, royal icing, coatings and run outs, marzipan and modelling paste figures and fruits, you will also work as an individual on practising skills and being innovative in design of your own products.

L2 students will have the opportunity to attend the annual conference and competions weekend event.

Take part in an exchange trip to Lorrach Germany and Switzerland.

Academy Bakery

The Academy Bakery is located on the Duke Street campus, producing a range of first class baked goods daily. These include artisan breads, patisserie and biscuits, as well as special occasion/novelty cakes by award-winning master-bakers. Students are offered a range of discounts throughout the year.

Academy Hair and Beauty Salons

Duke Street is also home to The Academy Hair and Beauty salons. They offer generous student discounts on a wide range of hair and beauty treatments, at a fraction of high-street prices. These include styling, cutting, perming, highlights, facials, manicures, electrolysis and traditional and homeopathic massage.

Academy Restaurant

Duke Street campus is also home to the College’s Academy Restaurant. Often referred to by it’s customers as Liverpool’s hidden gem, the restaurant serves top class cuisine, at highly competitive prices. Food is expertly prepared by professional chef/tutors and young chefs in training and offers students a range of discounts at different times of the year.

When you become a student of the College you’ll receive full access to Microsoft Office 365. This allows you to install the software on your own computer and other devices at home, completely free of charge.

The college has excellent sports and fitness facilities at its Roscoe Street campus. Students pay a one-off membership fee for all year round usage of weekly supervised gym sessions, as well as access to a number of sporting clubs and events.

Entry Requirements

The following is a guide as to what you might be expected to achieve to gain entry onto the course.

A minimum of 4 GCSEs grade 3 (previously D) or above including Maths and English Language OR a minimum of Level 1 course in your chosen subject at merit or above and English Language and Maths at Level 1.

An interest in the topic and good attitude to learning are important to enable you to achieve success on this course.

Fees

If you are 16-18 years old at the start of your course, studying at The City of Liverpool College is free.
