What to expect from the course

This two year course covers all aspects of the backstage world of the entertainment industry including lighting, sound, video/projection, stage management, set design, scenic construction and prop making.

Throughout the academic year you will support a wide range of innovative performances and events including musical theatre/acting productions, music gigs, dance shows and film and TV events.

In year one (Diploma) you will cover the technical operation of productions, deputy stage management and assistant stage management plus scenic construction and prop making.

In year two (Extended Diploma) you will take responsibility for lighting and sound design, production management, set/props design and complete an extended project of your choice.

As well as working on in-house shows you’ll also be given opportunities to work with industry specialists as part of work experience projects.

Academy Restaurant

Duke Street campus is also home to the College’s Academy Restaurant. Often referred to by it’s customers as Liverpool’s hidden gem, the restaurant serves top class cuisine, at highly competitive prices. Food is expertly prepared by professional chef/tutors and young chefs in training and offers students a range of discounts at different times of the year.

Microsoft Office 365 - Free

When you become a student of the College you’ll receive full access to Microsoft Office 365. This allows you to install the software on your own computer and other devices at home, completely free of charge.

Onsite Sports Facilities/Fitness Suite

The college has excellent sports and fitness facilities at its Roscoe Street campus. Students pay a one-off membership fee for all year round usage of weekly supervised gym sessions, as well as access to a number of sporting clubs and events.


Career pathways

Higher Education at the college or university/specialist drama school or professional work in the entertainment industry in fields such as Production and Stage Management, Lighting and Sound Design and Operation, Set Design and Scenic Construction and Prop Making.

Previous students are employed in a large number of entertainment venues in the Liverpool City Region, the West End, across the UK and worldwide.

Fees

If you are 16-18 years old at the start of your course, studying at The City of Liverpool College is free. If you are aged between 19-23 and don’t have a Full Level 3 qualification, you won't have to pay any fees for this course.

24 years old or over or 19-23 and hold a Full Level 3 qualification at the start of the course? Fees are payable, but you may qualify for an Advanced Learner Loan to cover the cost of your course. In future years this fee may be subject to change.

Please note this is a two year programme that consists of two courses. Your fee status may change from one year to the next depending on age and circumstance at the start of the next course e.g. if you turn 19 before progressing to the next level, you may be required to pay fees as outlined above.
