At The City of Liverpool College, we’re on a mission to become a truly anti-racist employer and we’re working on a number of different initiatives, in partnership with the Black Leadership Group and other sector experts, to make sure this happens.
As an employer, we are committed to creating a safe, diverse and inclusive working environment for all. One of the ways we do this is through the development of staff network groups. We’ve also recently implemented a cross-college mentoring scheme, working with staff from underrepresented groups to ensure they have access to support, mentoring and progression opportunities.
Over the past fews years, we’ve also made significant changes to our recruitment practices to ensure a streamlined, non-biased and effective process is followed. In 2020 the college brought into effect blind shortlisting, enabling managers to view applications for all roles without any personal information being disclosed. Only at the time of completed shortlisting will managers find out personal details such as name or contact details. For all management posts, any candidate who meets all essential criteria and identifies as BAME will automatically be shortlisted for interview, helping us to continually increase representation and diversity at all levels.
